This article concentrates on export barriers as one of important companies’ internationalization process. This
article aims to show the process of adaption of some of export barriers international theoretical findings to Latvia’s situation
in the frame of the Latvian export to Africa. As African economies grow, this trade direction becomes very popular
amongst entrepreneurs all over the world and may serve as good new market to Latvia exporters. The methodology
of barrier’s adaption had been divided into several stages with application of “locus of barrier’s overcoming difficulty”
in the end. The locus separates more important and difficult barriers from less ones for Latvian entrepreneurs. Four
export barrier groups were distilled: barriers related to difficulties with bank transfers from overseas markets, barriers
referred to production environment in Latvia, barriers related to lack of knowledge about how to work on African market
and barriers referred to export logistics procedures and arranging shipment. In the result, specific scientific barrier’s
overcoming methods were received and their findings considered as fruit of the study.

Object of research: the development and assessment of the European Union’s airport sector under economic
globalization. This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of economic globalization theories, examining the key
drivers of globalization, their effects on various economic sectors, and their specific linkages to transportation infrastructure.
Considering the European Union’s economic policies and transport sector development strategies, the study
evaluates the existing assessment tools used to measure economic globalization in the airport sector. The research provides
an in-depth examination of the effects of specific globalization processes – economic integration, capital mobility,
trade liberalization, and digitalization – on the European Union’s airport sector. To empirically assess the impact
of globalization conditions on airport operations, a comparative analysis of the development of major EU airports has
been conducted. This analysis evaluates key indicators such as passenger flows, cargo volumes, infrastructure investments,
and the accessibility of air transport services, considering the influence of globalization factors. The empirical
part of the study employs Pearson correlation analysis to identify linear relationships between passenger numbers,
flight frequency, and key macroeconomic indicators, including GDP growth and inflation rates. The research focuses
on the airport sector of the Baltic states, analysed as a specific regional area that provides insights into the impact of
globalization on smaller yet strategically significant EU markets. The findings of the study contribute to a deeper understanding
of globalization trends in the air transport sector and offer policy recommendations for further integrating
the EU’s air transport system into the global economy.

Hassan, Ferdinand Senam; Grobbelaar, Schalk
A comparative analysis of the costs of mass timber and engineered wood buildings relative to concrete and
steel structures was conducted. Using a systematic literature review and a lifecycle cost analysis framework, the study
examined 30 studies focused on cost comparisons of buildings. The findings indicate that mass timber buildings incur
higher costs during the product and construction phases. However, the results were mixed for the operational, end-oflife,
and total lifecycle costs. There is a need for standardised cost assessments to quantify the monetary value of mass
timber’s benefits to fully capture its financial advantages. Comprehensive data is also required to improve the accuracy
of cost evaluations. The study contributes to a broader understanding of the economic viability of mass timber buildings
and lays a groundwork for future research.
