Model of Low-Cost Carriers Development Possibilities in the International Small Packages Delivery Markets

Abstract

Within the master thesis, the model for low-cost carriers development in the small package delivery market has been created, which takes the current problems, the market environment and the behavior of the customers into account. The market environment and the importance of the criteria for the model have are based on the description and opinion of experts. In the first part of the master thesis, the available literature upon the airline industry (with a specific focus on low-cost carriers and airports) and the small package delivery has been analysed and presented in the conceptual model, wherein the gap in scientific knowledge has been shown. In the second part the current market environment and the growth of the industries have been analyzed by using available statistical data, the customer behavior of the airline industry and small package delivery services has been identified using the market survey and the exploratory research has been finalized with the expert interview in order to actualize the scientific knowledge and to identify problems and trends in the market environment. The importance of the criteria for the model, originating from the conceptual model, have been assessed by the experts and finally, the solution for the most compatible and role for a low-cost carrier to develop in the small package delivery market has been assessed. In the third part, the model for low-cost carrier development has been constructed and its applicability and limitations have been identified. Lastly, the conclusions and future research directions have been formulated. Structure: Introduction, 3 master thesis parts, Conclusions, References, Appendices. Šiame magistro darbe sukurtas pigių vežėjų plėtros mažų siuntų pristatymo rinkoje modelis, kuriame atsižvelgiama į dabartines problemas, rinkos aplinką ir klientų elgesį. Rinkos aplinka ir modelio kriterijų svarba remiasi ekspertų aprašymais ir nuomone. Pirmojoje magistro darbo dalyje išanalizuota ir pristatyta esama literatūra apie oro linijų pramonę (ypatingą dėmesį skiriant pigių skrydžių bendrovėms ir oro uostams) ir mažų siuntų pristatymą, kuriame pasirodo mokslo žinių spraga. Antrojoje dalyje, remiantis turimais statistiniais duomenimis, išanalizuota dabartinė rinkos aplinka ir pramonės augimas, rinkos tyrimu nustatyta oro linijų pramonės klientų elgsena ir mažų siuntų pristatymo paslaugos. Moksliniai tyrimai buvo užbaigti su ekspertų interviu, siekiant aktualizuoti mokslo žinias ir nustatyti rinkos aplinkos problemas bei tendencijas. Ekspertai įvertino modelio kriterijų, kilusių iš koncepcinio modelio, svarbą, ir galiausiai buvo įvertintas sprendimas, kaip pigiausių vežėjų vaidmuo mažų siuntų pristatymo rinkoje galėtų būti labiausiai suderinamas. Trečiojoje dalyje sudarytas pigių vežėjų plėtros modelis ir nustatytas jo pritaikomumas bei apribojimai. Galiausiai suformuluotos išvados ir ateities tyrimų kryptys.
