Žvėryno rajono urbanistinės raidos istorinė apžvalga

Abstract

The origination and urban development of Žvėrynas district in Vilnius is reviewed in this paper. Attention is mainly focussed on combining the planned structures of the district with the city plan. A number of so far known planning designs concerning the given part of the city have been described from the lands parcelling plan by E. Dombrovskis (1901) up to the detailed planning design by A. Lėckas (1982). Less widely known data on the urban structure of Žvėrynas had been proposed in Vilnius master plan of 1943 drawn up by a group of designers under the guidance of architect V. Žemkalnis is presented. The ideas of the present paper could be of great significance in developing a new urban design of Žvėrynas.
