Už miesto, miške: medžiai Rasų ir Bernardinų kapinėse

Abstract

XIX a. pr. naujos kapinės Vilniuje įrengiamos miškinguose plotuose už miesto. Naujųjų kapinių vieta urbanistinio audinio užribyje ir jų erdvinis organiškumas, žvelgiant į tuometinį Vakarų kultūros kontekstą, buvo itin progresyvus. Straipsnyje nagrinėjami Rasų ir Bernardinų kapinių erdvę formuojantys medžiai ir su istorine ikonografine medžiaga palyginamos sukatalogizuotos šiuo metu kapinėse augančių medžių rūšys. Tai dalis didesnio tyrimo (Bazaraitė 2017), kuriuo siekiama suprasti, ar XIX a. Vilniuje įkurtų kapinių kraštovaizdis yra baltiškųjų laidojimo tradicijų tąsa, ar kontekstualus atsitiktinumas, leidęs šiai laidojimo kultūrai pralenkti laiką ir miško kapines sukurti anksčiau, nei tai įvyko Vakarų kultūroje.

In the beginning of the 19th century, new cemeteries were established in the forested areas outside of Vilnius. Their location in the margins of the urban fabric and their organic spatiality were significantly progressive in the context of the Western Europe, where such cemeterial spatiality were also making its first steps, however, a planned version of it. This article looks at the trees that shape the spatial configuration of two cemeteries in Vilnius - Rasos and Bernardines, by comparing historic iconographic material and a mapped network of trees, which grow in the cemetery nowadays. This study is part of a bigger research that aims to understand if the landscape of the nineteenth century cemeteries in Vilnius are the continuation of Baltic funerary traditions, or a context related accident, that allowed this burial culture to step in front of time by creating forest cemeteries before it happened in the Western Europe.
