Abstract

Lietuvos kelių muziejaus Vievyje dvidešimtmečiui skirtame leidinyje autorių kolektyvo surinkta medžiaga primena muziejaus steigimo ištakas. Daugiau kaip prieš keturis dešimtmečius Vyriausiosios gamybinės autokelių valdybos (VGAK) vadovai paprašė Lietuvos kelininkų įmonių vadovų peržiūrėti turimus archyvus, senus nuotraukų albumus bei kitą istorinę ir daiktinę medžiagą, ir visa, kas tiktų steigiamam muziejui, perduoti Centrinei automobilių kelių ir tiltų laboratorijai. Surinkti pirmieji Kelių muziejaus eksponatai iš pradžių buvo eksponuojami Vilniuje, o „Orgtechkeltiesimo“ trestui persikėlus į Kauną, 1985 m. taip pat buvo pervežti į Kauną. Atkūrus Lietuvos nepriklausomybę, Kelių muziejus buvo įkurdintas pusiaukelėje tarp Vilniaus ir Kauno, Vievyje, valstybės įmonėje „Automagistralė“. Čia jis atvėrė duris 1995 m. spalio 19 d. Per dvidešimt muziejaus darbo metų labai padidėjo eksponatų skaičius, ekspozicijų salės išsiplėtė per du pagrindinio muziejaus pastato aukštus. Be to, šalia pastatytas specialus pastatas kelių tiesimo ir priežiūros technikai eksponuoti, taigi Kelių muziejaus eksponatai saugomi trijose didelėse erdvėse. Pagrindinio pastato pirmajame aukšte surinkti kelininkų įrankiai: kirviai, plaktukai, kūjai, plūktuvai, kastuvai, grėbliai, pjūklai, karučiai. Antrojo aukšto didžiojoje ekspozicijų salėje puikuojasi: kelių dokumentacija ir projektai, planai, žemėlapiai, instrukcijos, pirmosios knygos apie kelių tiesimą ir priežiūrą; tiltų projektai, maketai, senųjų tiltų statybos nuotraukos, istorinių, neišlikusių paveldo tiltų fragmentai; matavimo instrumentai, senieji geodeziniai instrumentai: busolės, nivelyrai, teodolitai, stovai, matavimo juostos; kelininkų asmeniniai dokumentai – pažymėjimai, atestatai, medaliai, padėkos raštai, korespondencija, nuotraukos; archyvinė bibliografija – istorinės knygos, senieji laikraščiai ir žurnalai, katalogai. Greta papildomai pastatytame originalios formos metalinės konstrukcijos angare eksponuojama prieškarinė ir pokarinė kelių tiesimo ir priežiūros technika. Kelių muziejuje iš viso surinkta, susisteminta ir saugoma per 8000 eksponatų, dalis jų labai reti ar vienetiniai. Muziejaus eksponatai – Lietuvos kelininkų veiklos, per pastarąjį šimtmetį ir anksčiau atliktų darbų liudininkai. Lietuvos kelių muziejaus veiklos dvidešimtmetis rodo, kad bendromis įvairių kartų kelininkų pastangomis, kad ir sudėtingomis sąlygomis, galima surinkti vertingą kelininkų istorinį paveldą ir išsaugoti jį ateičiai.

This publication is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Lithuanian Road Museum situated in Vievis. The material collected by a group of authors reminds the reader about the sources of establishing Road Museum in Lithuania. More than four decades ago the leaders of the General Industrial Road Authority asked the management of road enterprises to look over their archives, old photo albums and other historical and technical material, and everything what is suitable for road museum to hand over to the Central Laboratory of Roads and Bridges. The first collection of Road Museum was displayed in Vilnius, and after the Organizational Technical Road Building Trust moved to Kaunas, in 1985 the exhibits were also transported to Kaunas. After restoration of the independence of Lithuania, the Road Museum was re-established halfway between Vilnius and Kaunas, in Vievis, at the State Enterprise Automagistralė. It was opened on 19 October 1995. Over 20 years of the museum’s activity, a number of exhibits has significantly increased, exposition halls has expanded over the two floors of the main building. Besides, a special metal hangar has 285 been built for the exposition of road construction and maintenance equipment, thus, the exhibits of the Road Museum occupy three large spaces. The first floor of the main building exhibits road building tools: axes, hammers, sledgehammers, tampers, shovels, rakes, saws, barrows. The grand exhibition hall of the second floor displays: road documentation and projects, plans, maps, instructions, the first books about road building and maintenance; bridge projects, models, photographs of old bridges, fragments of historical heritage bridges, books; measuring instruments, ancient geodetic tools: compasses, levels, theodolites, stands, tape-measures; personal documents of road builders – certificates, medals, acknowledgements, letters, correspondence, photographs: archival bibliography - historical books, old newspapers and journals, catalogues. A lot of photographs commemorates the everyday works and celebratory moments of road builders. The museum accumulated much written material about the first roads in Lithuania, there is also the Livonia chronicle. Since the XVth century Vilnius was the crossing of the majority of the internationally and locally significant roads. The most important road through Lithuania led from Petersburg to Warsaw. There is much material about the history of this highway from Sankt Petersburg to Warsaw were started. The road rout went through Daugpilis, Zarasai, Ukmergė, Kaunas, Suvalkai. The first Lithuanian high road had a hard pavement and the driveway was covered with the layer of rammed gravel. You can also find the data about the second significant highway Riga–Konigsberg (Kaliningrad) in the museum, which was being built through Lithuania’s territory in 1836–1858 and led through Joniškis, Šiauliai, Tauragė. The densest net of the roads during that period was in the southern part of Lithuania. Even 67 per cent of all country roads were concentrated in this small territory. A large exposition of photographs tells about the building works of the longest in Lithuania Samogitian Highway which was accomplished in 1939. Visitors can see the famous cart “kalamashka“, the main machine used to build Samogitian Highway, a brass plaque which was casted on the occasion of building the bridge across the River Nemunas in Kaunas in 1930, and a large variety of other exhibits. Pre-war ant post-war road construction and maintenance equipment is exhibited in the metal hangar of original shape. The heritage of old machinery is the most interesting for the visitors, the exhibits are visited very often, since they are interesting for young and old. The Road Museum hosts a rich exposition of rare equipment: a unique bitumen heating boiler of 1.5 tonnes capacity made by the German company Henschell-Linnhoff in 1854, which was driven by 6 horses; a Russian tractor Universal-2 manufactured in 1928, a tremendous rotor snowplough MAZ-502 manufactured in 1965. There are also rollers, asphalt pavers, graders, tractors, bulldozers, scrapers, excavators, and other road construction and maintenance equipment. A significant part of museum is dedicated to the history of the main Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda motorway in Lithuania. The construction of the first section of the motorway, Vilnius–Kaunas, was started in 1960. In 1970, the new two-lane motorway Vilnius–Kaunas connected the two major cities of Lithuania. Extensive works on the motorway from Kaunas to Klaipėda and from Klaipėda to Kaunas started. The motorway section was built bypassing all settlements.
