Abstract

The most important event of the last decade of Antanas Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute (AGAI) is “Programme for Aviation Specialist Training and Training Facilities’ Improvement in the Period 2008–2013”, developed by AGAI together with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of National Defence. This programme, covering forty-three million Litas, has substantially improved the training quality of aviation specialists. During twenty-five years of very serious training activities, AGAI has already trained a new generation of the highest quality aviation professionals, capable and committed to continue the training process in aviation science at VGTU. Nowadays, there are eleven aviation companies in Lithuania, working all over the world, majority of them being of higher capacity than those of the former Lithuanian Airlines. They have also expanded the network of major companies in the aviation technical surveillance. Thus, I am firmly convinced that the need for aviation professionals will further increase, and the activities of the Institute will have an impact on Lithuania, as well as the whole region.
