Abstract

The fourth edition of the ongoing Lietuvos architektūros istorijos (Stories of Lithuanian Architecture) presents in broad detail the development of non-professional building in Lithuania. The publication discusses the impact of political, economic and social factors on local buildings, the traditional characteristics of building construction, presents the architecture of villages in different Lithuanian regions, homestead structures, cottage types. Different chapters are dedicated to church villages and small towns, their buildings, the sacral architecture of different religious communities, the evolution of manors, industrial buildings. ln the newest publication many topics are looked at from new perspectives. Particularly a lot of information is provided by the many illustrations. This detailed academic work is important not only for discovering the past, but also the development of modern Lithuanian culture.
