dc.description.abstract | Metamaterials are engineered composites. Much of the effort in the electrical engineering, material science, physics, and optics communities emphasized constructing efficient metamaterials and using them for potentially novel applications in antenna and radar design, subwavelength imaging, and invisibility cloak design. The purpose of this book is to provide a detailed introduction to the basic metamaterial modelling approaches and an overview of innovative phenomena enabled by metamaterials. This book explores the study of active metamaterials with tunable and switchable properties and novel functionalities such as the control of spontaneous emission and enhancement. The topics addressed in this book cover the major strands: theory, modelling and design, applications in practical devices, fabrication, characterization, and measurement. An understanding of these components is necessary in order to develop new artificial functional materials. | eng |
