The article deals with restoration of low carbon steel and pearlitic cast iron rolls by arc hard facing. The rolls are produced by casting or rolling. They are the constituent component of car transmission testing equipment. The length of this components is up to 1200 mm, diameter - up to 260 mm. As a hard facing material was used self-protective flux-cored low carbon content welding wire and as a arc source was used invertor type welding source. The high dynamic characteristics of arc welding supply sources assured hard facing weld geometry and very small dilution of parent metal with small carbon pickup to the weld pool. The deposition rate is discussed and dependence of deposition rate from electrode wire extension is calculated. Microstructural changes in the fusion and heat affected zone of pearlitic gray cast iron and low carbon steel were investigated. The efficiency of hard facing restoration was tested by several years long exploitation. Durability of restored rolls were improved 2-3 times.eng
