This article was inspired by strange and saddening reflections, though difficult to name, but shared by many those who are struggling to comprehend the contemporary essence of selecting candidates for studies at a higher educational institution and the final product of studies If the contemporary selection principles raise many doubts when approached with serious responsibility, then it is, perhaps, worthwhile to remember how the process was arranged in the archaic period. Attempts to answer this question and to review the experience of the remote past make the essence of the suggested study. The text reconsiders various facts of selection of candidates for studies in the traditions of old Egyptians, Greeks, Romans as well as Druidic institution and practice of European Middle Ages.eng
