There are several alternatives in the world’s practice associated with the adaptation of existing railways for the requirements of high-speed train passenger traffic. If the speed of passenger trains does not exceed 160 km/h, there is no need to reconstruct high - category railway routes. When trains are expected to go at the speed of 160-200 km/h, existing railway routes should be basically reconstructed. If train speed exceeds the limit of 200 km/h, new specially designed high-speed railway routes should be constructed. To upgrade existing railways for high-speed passenger train traffic, a lot of research should be done. In the designing stage certain requirements are to be met: - parameters of railroad lanes must be designed in the way that forces of a rolling-stock would affect both rails by the same power in straight sections and in curves; - the raise of elevation of the outer rail must with-stand normative wheel elevation speed; - railroad structure must not cause rolling stock vibration; - waiting ramps for passengers must guarantee people’s safety; - traffic regulation systems must guarantee train ride and safety. Separate elements and general geometry of the up-per part of a high-speed railway line are described in the article.eng
