Abstract

Most of the texts are original, taken from scientific journals, mostly from UN Environment Programme publication “Industry and Environment”and internet sources. Many of them are adapted and abridged. The book includes material dealing with the impacts of industries upon the environment: land contamination, sustainable urban development, the construction industry sustainable food production, energy industry and transport. Students are expected to master the vocabulary, answer the questions to the texts, summarize the texts, discuss on the presented issues, do grammar and lexical exercises. The book is intended for using it in class, as well as for advanced self-study. The book has been written with the aim of presenting lexical and grammatical material for the students of environmental and transport engineering, building and construction engineering, business management.

Knygą sudaro 5 skyriai (pagal pramonės šakas) bei priedai, kuriuose pateikiama: dažniausiai vartojamų šnekamosios ir rašytinės anglų kalbos žodžių sąrašai, žodžių kaitybos išimtys, matematinių formulių skaitymo, dažniausiai painiojamų žodžių lentelės ir kt. Gramatinė medžiaga – pratimai su svarbiausiais anglų kalbos gramatiniais reiškiniais. Platus ir šiuolaikiškas specialybės terminų žodynas teikia galimybę laisvai diskutuoti žmogaus santykio su aplinka temomis. Knygoje nagrinėjamas įvairių pramonės šakų – energetikos, transporto, statybos, maisto pramonės poveikis aplinkai, įvardijami didžiausi žemės, vandenų bei oro teršėjai, teršalai, pateikiamos priemonės ir būdai, kaip būtų galima jų išvengti.
