Soil test standartization for highway engineering

Abstract

At present quality of soil investigations for highway engineering in Lithuania significantly differs from the requirements widely accepted in the West European countries. New Lithuanian soil testing and classification standards, which are in the stage of preparation now must satisfy basic requirements of ISO standarts and Eurocodes. In addition, during the preparation of now standards, geological conditions of Lithuanian regions are to be evaluated. In the unique and complex soil classification system standartization of soil indentification tests must also be included. As a conclusion, analysis of the West European standards, Eurocode and ISO recomendations as well as the evaluation of soil lest data from Lithuanian regions enabled to work out basic principles and structural scheme of new Lithuanian standard.
