dc.description.abstract | Facilities for reagent-free removal iron and manganese from groundwater by means of single-degree aeration and filtration installed at Vilnius Sereikiškių Waterworks are the first ones of this kind in Lithuania. Experimental investigation was performed in one of the three selected pressure-filters of 3.400 mm in diameter. Filters are charged with a quartz sand layer h=1.6 m, consisting of grains 1-2 mm in diameter. It is established that the technological process at the rate of 8.0 m/h and 12.0 m/h ensures compliance with the requirements provided in the Lithuanian Hygiene Norms for water classed as water of a very good quality. At the filtration rate of 21.5 m/h, in respect to iron and ammonium ion removal, the facilities ensure compliance with requirements for water classed as water of a very good quality, and in respect to manganese removal - for water classed as water of a good quality. Maximum possible water filtration rate at the Waterworks is 12 m/h which meets the designed filtration rate Vdesigned = 12.1 m/h. | eng |
