Lithuania is trying to attain membership in the European Union (EU) and is solving the problems of national economy. The modern management has proved that competitiveness could be acquired improving the quality of products and services and meeting consumer’s needs. The consumers’ movement for their rights is growing in Lithuania. The consumers’ organizations strive to help a consumer as a weaker market participant than a manufacturer. In Lithuania legal decisions are made that help to approach the requirements of the EU common policy. Lithuanian food policy is oriented to achieve the quality and safety of products. For this objective worldwide quality management systems and methods are being implemented, compulsory requirements for food composition and other criteria are established. The food law legalized manufacturers’ and suppliers’ obligations, responsibilities and rights of quality and safety of food. The Lithuanian food companies are creating quality systems most frequently on the LST EN ISO 9002 model. As a result, the EU allows products produced by Lithuanian companies processing milk and fish products to be imported into its countries after special commissions have inspected and evaluated the hygienic conditions of the enterprises and the quality of the products. The EU supports Total Quality Management (TQM) which helps to develop the common market, to hasten positive social changes of the EU member states, as well as in essence to improve the global competitiveness of European business.
