The city of Vilnius: urban planning, public transport and traffic safety

Abstract

The goal of the report is to reveal the statistical connection of town planning, public transport and the traffic safety level which could be treated as factors having a continuous or long-term influence on the formation of traffic conditions in Vilnius. The traffic environment (including the physical environment) and a low safety level practically have settled by themselves without active managerial efforts to avoid them. The most crucial factor for all these matters was a rapid growth of the automobilization level. This factor impelled the changes in the macrostructure and a territorial differentiation of people’s communication modes and transport services. [...].
