This report is the first research on the influence of the EC deeds on labour security and health on Lithuanian economy. The aim of this research is to define the costs and benefits, which arise from the Directives 98/24/EC “About workers safety and health protection from the consequences caused by usage of chemical materials”(14th special Directive based on the 1st part of 16th clause of the Directive 89/391 EEC) application in the economic activity of Lithuania. “The method of the estimation of influence of the regulating deeds” worked out by European Committee at the Government of the Republic of Lithuania was used to investigate this influence. Lithuania is one of the first countries of Central and Eastern Europe where the Law of the Human safety at work was enacted. But after studying deeds acting in the Republic of Lithuania or prepared projects of new ones we found that it necessary to change or supplement them according to the regulations of the Directive. We used one method of the casual selection – the block selection to obtain data for analysis. Such method allows getting significant results using relatively small samples. Other important source for the influence of the researching Directive is data of 3 years of the State Labour Inspection, the Centre of the Labour Medicine and the Department of Statistics. Generalizing the results of the interrogatory we found out that the execution of the Directive requirements will cause problems in 74% of enterprises. Large problems will arise in 4%, medium ones - in 42% and 26% of enterprises will have no problems. After analysing general costs related to the realisation of the requirements of the Directive it was established that general costs will be significant for 72% enterprises. The costs will be high for 22% of enterprises, medium - for 34% and low - for 26% of enterprises.eng
