Due to the peculiarities of climate, hydro-geologic and topographic conditions, the largest part of Lithuanian territory suffers from excess water. This factor induced the draining of agricultural lands which was started in Lithuania hundred years ago and is still going on. Curently, there are 65 thousand km of channels, the largest part of which (about 60%) is damaged by naturalization. The process is going on with increasing intensity due to the limited financial support for service and maintenance of land reclamation system. [......].eng
