While becoming a developed world country, the role of education and science becomes more and more important nowadays. The aim of technical universities is to prepare engineers. Engineers are the specialists that are able to integrate fundamental science, technique, production and economics in to one chain. Moving to market economy Lithuanian enterprises as well as international companies set new requirements for their employees: • The ability to work in team • Strong personality structures • Readiness and ability for long life learning • Conformation to frequent job changes • Sense of duty and responsibility The graduate must have not only good theoretical background but also must have some special knowledge of narrow technical sphere, IT, have good knowledge of two or more foreign languages as well as management, marketing, accountancy and law. Enterprises have to understand that in order to get good prepared specialists, they have to give financial support to the universities and offer practical bases too. The accomplished survey of VGTU graduates and Lithuanian enterprises enables us to make the main conclusion, that the main instrument that would contribute to the preparation of the specialist that satisfies the needs and requirements of today is closer relationship and cooperation of teachers, students and employers. Lectures must be given by the teachers that already have real practical experience in operating companies. Only when a technical University solves the questions of practical students‘ preparation in enterprises we can expect the employers to have specialists satisfying the requirements of labour market of today. All the groups that are interested in this: university teachers, students and employers have to convince the Seimas and the Government that it is a great need to prepare legal basis that would enable the enterprises to contribute more to the preparation of well qualified specialists.eng
