dc.description.abstractConstantly increasing needs for a better presentation and interpretation of statistics, together with new tools for the statistical data analysis as well as statistical mapping, have put geographical information systems (GIS) in the legenda in most national institutes of Western Europe. Widespread use of such tools has contributed to an increasing demand for regional georeferenced statistics. Due to the fact that while dealing with statistics territorial sections for the analysis of various statistical issues are largely applied, the relation between statistical data and geographical patterns is of great importance. Rapid development of both GIS and technologies gave an impetus for spatial analyses of various geographic data (spatial data) as well as of different objects related to a certain territorial unit and interaction between these units. Therefore, the application of GIS in statistics nowadays is one of the most important goals in Lithuania as well as in other countries of Western Europe. GIS aplication in statistics is initiated by the United Nations and the organisations of Eurostat. The demographic data are data about population. The basic database about population in Lithuania is database of demographic data of Statistics of Lithuania and Register of Population of Lithuanian Republic.eng
