Contemporary banking of Lithuania in the period of transformation of economic systems

Abstract

The authors of the article, on the basis on the research undertaken, as well as on previous scientific publications, are presenting a survey on the formation and development of the contemporary banking in Lithuania in the period of transformation of economic systems. They disclose the setbacks and the present state of the banking system. Their theoretical propositions based on the contemporary practice of the development of Lithuanian banking system, as well as on the process taking place in the practice, in the Central and East European countries and in other Baltic states. The authors are of the opinion that this process must be analyzed and systemized, efforts must be taken to manage it because the economic and financial policy of the world and, after the accession to the EU, also Lithuania's economy and banking will be increasingly exposed to global problems. The authors of the presented article are not seeking to make their theoretical generalizations final and indisputable.
