This monograph follows the III International Conference of Innovative Buildings “InBuild” Krakow 2017, organized by Cracow University of Technology. It contains an extended version of conference papers focusing on selected aspects associated with planning and organisation in modern construction. In each chapter of the monograph we can find theoretical bases for, as well as modem methods and techniques of solving various contemporary problems concerning planning and organisation in modem construction. These are problems that are topical and important from a scientific point of view, as well as that of construction practice. They also point to the fields of interest and specialisation of the individual centres associated with the technology and organisation of construction, and which are a part of facilities in Krakow, Kosice, Brno and Vilnius. The overarching aim of this work is thus a presentation of scientific achievements of the international team of Authors who represent the field of Technology and Organisation in Construction. The detailed scientific and practical goals have been presented in each of the work’s chapters. The Technology and Organisation in Construction specialisation provides specialist knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for the preparation and making of decisions, defining, among others, the manner, time, costs, quality and place of the carrying out of a construction project. Effective management in modern construction requires possessing reliable information and knowledge concerning technological, economic and legal conditions of the carrying out of the process of construction, in addition to management decision-making skills. Decision-making, understood as an art of solving problems and making the best choices from the point of view of one’s goals, is of key significance to the effectiveness of managing both a construction company and a construction site. Performing management functions, such as planning, organising, directing and controlling is associated with making and implementing effective decisions. The monograph’s chapters also pertain to various decision-making problems in modern construction project management. The decision concerning the selection of the most optimal variant of action is performed by choosing from a set of permissible variants, on the basis of approrpriately selected criteria which are in line with the goals of the decision-maker. The success of effective management is thus based on appropriately made decisions, which bring decision-makers and organisations closer to reaching their stated goals. Successive chapters of the first part of this monograph discuss the problem of costs, which are an immensely important matter, especially during the planning stage of modem construction.eng
