Almost in all the planning documents it is indicated that Birstonas municipality has exceptional potential for the development of tourism, especially because of the good geographical position, cultural and recreational resources, the level of recreational infrastructure development, harmonious environment and the tradition of the area, all of that creating great conditions for the city to become a competitive Lithuanian resort. All of this is true and indisputable, however, the urbanistic development of the city is increasingly becoming dependent on the public administration sector rather then professional urbanistic solutions. In this way the unic urbanistic tradition of the town is being ignored. The project of Birstonas central part regeneration, organized in 1993-1994, is an example of a consistent urbanistic development. This project also includes the urbanistic development possibilities for blocks. Moreover, there was suggested the unic spatial structure, however, all of that was not realized. Obviously, this project was premature. During the era of total division/parting the spatial structure of the city was not important to anybody.eng
