Lietuvos bankų sektoriaus apžvalga: pagrindinės plėtros tendencijos, kai kurie veiklos aspektai Europos Sąjungos kontekste

Abstract

Lietuvai tapus Europos Sąjungos (ES) nare, stiprinant šalies ekonomiką ir ruošiantis integracijai į vieningą Europos pinigų sąjungą, ypač didelę reikšmę turi patikima ir stabiliai funkcionuojanti finansų institucijų, kurių pagrindą sudaro bankai, veikla. Bankai atlieka reikšmingą vaidmenį šalies ekonomikoje. Pagrindinis bankų sistemos poduktas – pinigai lemia ekonominę šalies gerovę. Pinigai, turimi žmonių smulkiomis sumomis, neturi dinaminės kūrybinės valios, tuomet jie yra tik tarpasmeninių ekonominių mainų tarpininkai. Tie patys pinigai, paleisti į ūkinį kūrybinį darbą, pradeda kurti naujas vertybes ir kartu jau virsta kapitalu. Bankai yra svarbiausi šalies ūkio centrai, kurie leidžia pinigus į „ekonominį gamybos darbą“ [1]. Kalbant apie bankininkystės sektoriaus plėtrą Lietuvoje, jos svarbą ekonomikai, vertėtų išskirti centrinio banko vaidmenį bei komercinių bankų sektoriaus vystymosi tendencijas. Šiame straipsnyje daugiausia dėmesio yra skiriama Lietuvos komercinių bankų sektoriaus tendencijoms, nagrinėjami Lietuvos komercinių bankų pagrindiniai apimtiniai rodikliai bei jų santykis su ekonomikos dydį bei apimtį apibūdinančiu rodikliu – bendruoju vidaus produktu. Remiantis minėtaisiais rodikliais, nustatoma Lietuvos bankininkystės sektoriaus vieta tarp Europos Sąjungos valstybių.

Lithuania joined the European Union in May 2004 and seeks membership in the Eurozone. In this aspect the banking sector plays one of the most important role in the country’s economy as other financial intermediaries are in their early stage of development in Lithuania. Commercial banks are the main financial intermediaries in the economy connecting borrowers and lenders by accepting funds from lenders and loaning funds to borrowers and the main creators of money. The banking sector in Lithuania is entering a new era of stability, strengthening and development. Over a decade of transition the banking sector has been restructured, recapitalised and privatized. The advent of the euro has had a major impact on the European banking sector. The integration of the banking sector throughout the euro area will strengthen the effectiveness of monetary policy transmission and contribute to greater efficiency and competitiveness of the euro area economy. It is also of interest to Lithuania and other new countries of the EU. The article describes the main tendencies of the banking sector development in Lithuania. It focused on the following set of questions: what are the tendencies of the banking sector in Lithuania? What are the main reasons of the banking sector development in Lithuania? What share does the banking sector make in Lithuania’s economy? What place does the banking sector of Lithuania take among other EU countries? What are the main prognoses of the banking sector development in Lithuania?.
