dc.description.abstract | The present work seeks to search for relations among separate indices of physical development, fitness, and functional capacity shown by young males characterised by small-scale physical activity. Our study involved randomly selected first-year non-sporting students admitted to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) in 2002-2004 (n=317). Physical development indices in many cases demonstrate reliable correlation, however they fail to show any sufficiently reliable relations with physical fitness indices. It must be noted that force indices are related to other indices of physical fitness; this finding allows to argue that the training of muscle force is the basis of physical training. Equilibrium or suppleness test indices do not correlate with other tested indices of physical fitness, thus. they reflect special features of research participants. Minimal movement frequency per 10 s indices reflecting the agility of nervous system are not related to other indices, they represent a specific quality of human organism. Indices revealed on tests designed to study the functional capacity of circulation and respiratory system showed reliable interrelations, so. part of such indices may be discarded without any harm to further research because sufficient information on the functional condition and dynamics of respiratory and circulation system is secured. | eng |
