dc.description.abstract | Taking into account the results of the investigations of historical and aesthetic significance of buildings, wearing of them, the subordination of plots, work reltions of the district, provision with service institutions as well as urbanistic significance of Žvėrynas district in the whole context of the city, the functional zoning of Žvėrynas district, with the determination of proposed zones as well as the limits of these zones and their characteristics has been carried out. The formation of districts planned-functional structure is being understood as the display of certain contradictions which comprises the growth of the town and transformation demand of the district (wearing of buildings, low level of engineering equipment, constructional "unstability” of the situation in the nothern part of the district, the lack of flats, etc.) on the one hand and already developed social-economic conditions for urbanistic activities in the district as well as means of monument protection, ecological and other limitations on the other hand. With the complex contradictions that are available the optimum model of the development of Žvėrynas district principally would be as follows: 1. The main territory of the central part of the district is suggested for residential areas with service facilities, considering this territory to be the protective zone as the relics of urbanistic activities within the period of XIX-XX centuries. 2. The most radical transformation is suggested in the northern part the district southwards the Žiugždos street with creating modern, of all-town significance, integrated centre. 3. Southwest, southeast and southern parts of the district with the refinement of weared out buildings of little value, elswhere with the reconstruction as well as planting greenery are to be used for recreation, attractions and sports facilities. | eng |
