Abstract

Topics of Lithuanian labour market are of particular importance. There is noticed a constant search for optimal decisions to decrease unemployment and increase the competitiveness of the country and its separate territories. While forming and implementing regional policy it is requisite to access each the region as a separate economical - social system, and identify the key factors impacting its development. The article provides the tendencies of Lithuanian unemployment during the period of accessing to the EU, labour market changes and the perspectives of employment promotion policy during the convergence period into the general EU labour market. In 2006-2008 Lithuanian employment increase policy will orient to the solution of the burning labour market questions - decrease of regional unemployment differences, employment promotion of the most socially vulnerable unemployed, equal rights implementation in the labour market policy, a further modernisation of Lithuanian Labour Exchange activities, increase of service quality and availability as well as development of an open information service system. On purpose of competitiveness increase, it is requisite to intensify work with the unemployed, strengthen cooperation with the employers and social partners.
