The combination of physics, chemistry and focus on the relationship between the properties of a material and its microstructure is the domain of the Science of Materials: Book II. The development of this particular science allowed designing the required stuff and provided a knowledge base of engineering applications. The text describes interdependence among processing, structure and properties as well asdiscusses the performance of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, glass-ceramics and polymers. The book is intended for mastering the basic fundamentals at an appropriate level to engineering students who have completed courses in physics, chemistry and calculus. The purpose of this work is to provide the students with the text that presents the introductory knowledge of the science of materials and includes most commonly used engineering materials and treatment technologies. Collected information is presented to the students further proceeding with their studies on mechanical engineering due to the fact that all similar subjects generate demand for data on the introduced materials. The study is a helpful tool for creating the new types of materials having desirable properties, understanding the limits of the used materials and changes in their properties and selecting the required material with reference to the given use and considering cost and performance.eng
