Kiekvienas žmogus savyje turi miesto suvokimo mastelį: vienas nori gyventi Niujorke, Šanchajuje, o kitas nori gyventi Druskininkuose. „Nesvarbu, kur begyventume, norime turėti centralizuotai tiekiamą vandenį, norime, kad žiemą namuose būtų šilta, o karštą vasaros dieną vėsu, – įsitikinusi VGTU Miestų statybos katedros vedėja prof. dr. Marija Burinskienė. – Norime elementaraus komforto, turime turėti galimybę patogiai pasiekti mokyklą, darbą, teatrą ar polikliniką.“ Pasak garsios urbanistės, ekonominių, socialinių ir aplinkos sąlygų visuma ir nulemia žmonių gyvenimo kokybę.lit
Professor Marija Burinskiene, the Head of the Department of Urban Engineering at VGTU, is sure that, ‘‘...it is not important where one prefers to live – in New York, Shanghai or Druskininkai – everyone wants to live comfortably: to have at least a centralised water supply, a warm house in winter and a cool one in summer, to live a short distance from school, work, the theatre or a hospital“. According to the famous urban engineer, economic, social and environmental conditions determine the quality of life. In her interview the professor deals not only with urban problems including the real estate bubble, but also explodes the myths in the culture of many Lithuanian towns. The professor forecasts tourist flows to the biggest cities – Vilnius, Riga, Tallin, St. Petersburg, and perhaps Klaipeda and Kaliningrad too. ‘‘It is naive to imagine foreigners cycling to small towns. Working on international projects for such a long time, I have noticed that foreigners are mostly interested in two places in Lithuania – Vilnius and Neringa, and sometimes Trakai. Kursiu Nerija and Vilnius Old Town are at the top of the cultural heritage list for foreigners visiting Lithuania“ – says Burinskiene.eng
