dc.description.abstract | Management system for orders, speed and quality of information flows directly affect production expenses, prices and service effectiveness. The introduction of order management system and firm's information system estabilishes the foundation for the firm's activity as well as basis of logistics system control. An order cycle covers the whole period of time from the order presentation to the product delivery to a client warehouse or the perfect fulfilment of service ordered by the client. At present majority of Lithuanian trade firms sell Western industrial goods. There is clearly defined fulfilment duration for the international order cycle. The shortening of this cycle mostly depends on transport technology perfection and in the smallest degree on product maker. The cycle can be shortened more than 40% by improving transport technology. There are no strict time standarts in business, since each part of cycle is characterised by appropriate fluctuations of implementation time. This article presents calculations based on real data, which show, that the reduction of duration fluctuaton for order cycle reduces necessary reserves for the continues activity. This obviously proves, that the stability of order cycle is more important than its shortening. The logistics activity fields encompassed by order management system are also formulated. Quick and accurate transfer, acceptance and implementation of the order into the production save time. This time could be used for the analysis of alternative methods of transportation and variants of the order cycle shortening. This might help to reduce reserves and inventory. There is direct relationship between inventory expenses and expenses for the information maintenance and communication. Having complex information maintenance structure the firm's business becomes rapidly violated when any communication function, internal or external, breaks down. This takes place due to especially small buffers of inventory in the case of advenced and effective systems for order transfer and management. It becomes necessary to use information technologies of sufficiently high level due to an increase of the order volume. The usage of computers is an important factor in the case of large amount of the orders that results in large amount of information to be processed. Today the quality and effectiveness of service become more important as a factor of the firm's competitiveness. In the logistics system this can be achieved by a constant accumulation of information about clients - owners of capital goods and vehicles, rational routes - especially taking into account military operations in diferent countries, etc. Computerised order managenent system is a very important part of the information system serving for the firm control, which functions in close connection with other parts. | eng |
