| lit |
dc.description.abstract | At the Lifosa Joint Stock Company during extraction of phosphoric acid from apatites with sulphuric acid, synthetic semi-hydrate gypsum (E-CaSO4·0.5H2O) in which moisture content reaches about 30% is obtained. This technogenic product is not used in building material industry because its low activity and contaminating with acidous mineral admixtures. Recently a new method of E-CaSO4·0.5H2O processing into binding materials by its mechanical activation has begun to investigate. However, the investigation requires phosphogypsum not cooled and taken from the conveyor before its hydration. The resulting binding material, modified with additives after mechanical activation and neutralisation of acidous admixtures, achieves a compressive strength of about ~40 MPa. During transportation at longer distances (100–150 km) the raw material, it becomes cooler and begins to harden. The result of such process is formation of ductile pieces, which prevent the usage of mechanical activation. Partially hydrated gypsum has a significantly lower strength. The most massive waste product is disposed in dumps, so the problem of its utilization is very important from the point of view of industry environment and protection. One of the objectives of the research work was to investigate the possibilities to use this waste for various sorts of dry building mixtures. The control of waste dehydration described in the study and the drying process were carried out by rentgenographic examination of the mineralogical composition of feeding phosphogypsum and of the product discharged from the drying drum. The physical and mechanical properties of hardened samples were determined as well. The data show that optimization of the drying process allows to obteined useful and rather strong binding material made of dehydrated and dried phosphogypsum after its mechanical activation in the disintegrator. | eng |
