Abstract

A big part of long-term unemployed makes the Government constantly improve the measures of labour market, oriented to the reduction of long-term unemployment. Lit¬huanian labour market council has suggested special cognitive programmes for long-term unemployed as well as other measures for their knowledge and skills renewal since 2003. The main goal of these measures is to increase the activation of long-term unemployed people. The research shows that the benefit of special programmes for the unemployed is unquestioning not only in the viewpoint of labour market, but also individually. The main benefit is the reduction of unemployment level in the country, positive effects on economic situation of the unemployed as well as on social results of the country (decreasing number of social support recipients, higher qualification and better life quality of unemployed).
