The problem of particle shape by means of applying spherical harmonics is considered. This type of modelling presents development of semi-analytical model for particles described by a discrete set of points. Modelling technique minimises the order of spherical harmonic expression while maintaining sufficient accuracy. Two discrete sets of points were generated to mimic typical symmetric non-spherical parlicle shapes - rotational ellipsoidal and the quasi-cube, i.e. smoothed cube with rounded edges. The variation of several criteria (surface area, volume and etc.) against approximation order parameters is illustrated.
