Abstract

In his youth, somebody advised Professor Romualdas Vadlūga, the specialist of tower constructions, to devote his life for working with iron, but not with people. He followed this advice... and for more than fifty years worked at the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Brick Construction at VGTU. Today, the construction engineer, celebrating his jubilee of eighty years, admitted that his purpose in life was not the iron itself, but rather the desire to learn and pass on his knowledge to his students. What is the most important in the profession of a building engineer? “The responsibility and knowledge are the most important things. In the studies of construction engineering, a person has to learn a lot, because there is no place for compromise or gamble there. If a surgeon, operating a patient, risks the life of a single human being, the construction engineer, designing and constructing a new house, risks the lives of many people. Therefore, during all my life, I emphasized that knowledge is the most important thing for an engineer”, – said Professor Romualdas Vadlūga.
