Transporto priemonių greitis yra vienas pagrindinių eismo saugumo rizikos veiksnių, didinantis eismo įvykių tikimybę ir lemiantis eismo įvykių pasekmes. Leistino arba saugaus važiavimo greičio viršijimas yra viena svarbiausių eismo įvykių priežasčių, o leistino greičio viršijimas – vienas dažniausių Kelių eismo taisyklių pažeidimų. Speeding is one of the most important causes of road accidents and probably the most widely spread violation of Traffic Rules. Speeding influence to severity of the collisions and to the severity of accidents with vulnerable road users – pedestrians and cyclists. In 2015, vulnerable road users were the most violate road users in Lithuania expressed as 42.3 % of the total number traffic accidents. Survey of road users concluded that speeding is the most common violation – 54 % of respondents. 36 % of drivers report violating the speed limit “frequently” or “constantly”. Nevertheless, 96 % of respondents accept as appropriate vertical speed reduction measures, and 78 % – as appropriate automated speed control system. Research results showed need of implementation of traffic calming measures groups in the rural–urban transitions. Single measures are not sufficient to control the speed on longer distance than 200–300 meters. Selection of traffic calming measures groups should depend on function of the road and distance between measures fitted to speed limit.
