Abstract

Assesment and strengthening of masonry buildings in Lithuania are growing more urgent. It is because of need to preserve the country's architectural heritage, much of which still is in poor state. Many other masonry buildings built in different times need to be repaired to conform to modern requirements of use. Some problems associated with this task (defects, deterioration, strength determination of masonry, strengthening of masonry, influence of introduction of Eurocode) are discussed, modern techniques of examination and strengthening used in other countries are pointed out.
