Straipsnyje apžvelgiamos Medininkų ledynmečio periodo moreninių gruntų mechaninės savybės. Pagrindinis tyrimo tikslas – laboratoriniais metodais nustatyti moreninio grunto mechanines savybes ir jas palyginti su pateiktomis literatūroje. Remiantis lauko tyrimų metodu – statinio zondavimo duomenimis (qc, fs), nagrinėjamas gruntas yra labai stiprus. Nustatytos grunto fizikinės savybės – tankis, drėgnis, Atterberg’o ribos ir granuliometrinė sudėtis. Dvi bandinių serijos buvo analizuojamos triašio slėgio aparatu pritaikant dvi bandymo metodikas: pirma, neprisotinti konsoliduoti nedrenuoti (UCU) bandymai; antra, prisotinti konsoliduoti drenuoti (SCD) bandymai. This paper presents the properties of the till soils of Medininkai glacial period. The main aim is to investigate mechanical properties of the till soils and to compare obtained results with those proposed in literature, regardless of its genesis. Based on the information obtained during the performed cone penetration test (qc, fs), the tested soil is classified as a very strong soil. In addition, physical properties of the soil were determined. The determination of the natural density, moisture and Atterberg’s limits were performed, as well as the grain size analysis of the soil. Two testing series were provided with a triaxial apparatus under different testing methodologies. The first series was unsaturated consolidated undrained (UCU) triaxial tests, and the second series of samples was saturated consolidated drained (SCD) triaxial tests. Four techniques were chosen for the investigated soil strength parameters from the laboratory test: (1) the least squares method; (2) M, N; (3) t – s (Massachusetts) coordinate system; and (4) p – q (Cambridge) coordinate system. Mechanical soil strength properties (internal friction angle and cohesion) from the triaxal test were compared with strength properties proposed in the analyzed literature. After literature analysis, it was obtained that suggested shearing strength parameters in literature (Sližytė ir kt., 2012; Šimkus ir kt., 1973) are overestimated when compared to obtained results. After the tests with a triaxial apparatus according to two different testing methodologies, the obtained shearing strength properties c’ and ϕ’ did not differ a lot (angle of internal friction by 2°, and shear strength by about 7 kPa). The most conservative shearing strength values were obtained using the least squares method for results interpretation.
