Laser-activated THz emitters and THz detectors based on low temperature grown GaAs are developed and fabricated at the Semiconductor Physics Institute. One of their possible applications is in THz time domain spectroscopy (TDS) systems. A standard system consists of a THz emitter and a detector, a mode-locked Ti:Sapphire laser and a lock-in amplifier. The spectral width of such TDS system is about 4 THz when 150 fs duration laser pulses are used.
