3D simulation of poly-dispersed particle systems is performed by the Discrete Element Method (DEM) software on gLite based grid. An efficient parallel algorithm for moving particles, that exchange processors, is incorporated in the domain decomposition framework. Parallel efficiency of the developed code is investigated by a series of benchmark tests with different numbers of heterogeneous particles. DEM software is deployed in BalticGrid-II testbed by using MPI-START. Two types of actual problems - tri-axial compacting of granular material as well as granular flow in hopper - are solved. Investigated systems of poly-dispersed particles are visualized by novel grid visualization e-service VizLitG. Efficiency tests of VizLitG are performed on datasets of different size.
