Abstract
Nowadays the importance of virtual organizations is increasing. Global processes are the main reason of rapid expansion of virtual organizations. A lack of high qualified workers around the world, unexpected changes and sudden problem reactions are the essential issues that business face. In the article the concepts of leadership and virtual organizations is shortly introduced. However, the goal of this article is to define leadership characteristics, identify their similarities and differences and determine leadership qualities in virtual and traditional organizations. In the beginning of the article scientific literature and surveys are summarize. Foreign literature introduces information and research related to the appliance of information technologies, work in networks analysis and leadership in virtual organizations. Leadership gains more and more importance in all types of organizations. Therefore, it is necessary to identify underlying leadership traits. One of the most appropriate methods is quantitative research, when the required data is gathered. Thus, processed data can benefit to identify certain leadership traits. The second part of the paper addresses research methodology and preparation. Afterwards description of processed data and its interpretation are presented. Such characteristics like commu- nication, intelligence are applied universally. Characteristics of listening and supporting are inherent to traditional leaders.They have emotional nature and are prevalent due to face to face communication. Honesty is apprecia- ted in traditional leaders. E-world leaders are more risk taking, less conservative. Qualities like creativeness, courage could be mentioned as well. Identified skills are equally important for both types of leaders.Only Information Techno- logies is more inherent to e-World leaders. All measured characteristics are more or less important for tradi- tional and virtual organization leaders.
