The number of fields for permanent GPS stations application is unlimited: navigation, geodesy, surveying, mapping, land managing, geodynamics, meteorology, geology, geophysics. Usage of permanent GPS stations in aeronavigation and geodesy. A mathematical model is given for GPS positioning system presenting the error sources of positioning by the differential GPS. An overview of the methods implementing GPS for aeronavigation is given as well as the achievable results in DGPS integration with conventional aeronavigational systems. A historical overview of permanent GPS stations in the Baltic Sea region was performed. The present situation of the neighbouring to the Lithuania countries was described. The examples of permanent GPS networks in countries surrounding the Baltic Sea are presented. The near future geodetic activities for Lithuanian permanent GPS stations are foreseen.
