Elena Nijolė Bučiūtė: architektūra - tai praktinė paskirtis ir meninė prigimtis
Abstract
The creative activity of architect Elena Nijole Buciute is based on two principal postulates, which make up the essence of architecture, namely, practical destination and artistic nature. In all the projects designs of the architect the first rule is manifested by an uncomplicated volumetric composition dictated by the function of the building and its situation, while the second one - by the striving for a strong architectural expression, creation of the mood. The furniture store, the school of general education, the Institute of Land Exploitation, the Opera and Ballet Theatre - they all demonstrate signs of innovation: original constructions of the roofing, transformable barriers or quite an unexpected image and its means of expression. Creative achievements were predetermined by the iron-strong will of the architect, her diligence, persistence, her open mind to novelties, a self-critical point of view and firm moral principles. The optimal combination of intellect and sensitiveness had formed this "unusually usual" creative personality.
