Abstract
This study analyzed two-car collision in which accidents with fairly slight consequences are dominating. If single-car accidents and collisions between cars and heavy vehicles were included, probably car characteristics of slightly another kind would be emphasized in the results. Analysis of collisions between cars and heavy vehicles by the car model would be virtually impossible due to statistically small numbers of cases. The driver injury risk which is measured by a number of injuries per number of accidents occurred, as such does not tell enough about passive safety of a car model, because there are significant differences between car models in driver and use environment distributions. Instead, in estimating the agressity of car model to other road users, a method where the number of injuries caused to others is proportioned to the number of accidents works fairly well. The protection offered by a car model to its driver and passengers can be assessed quite illustratively with the RR index, too. The index RR shows directly how big is a part of the injured drivers in two-car accidents involving the case car model. So the RR index describes the ratio of passive safety to total safety of a car model, but virtually it also reflects the division of total safety between the case car model and the opposite cars.
