Abstract
Reasons of traffic accidents on winter motor roads and streets according to paving slipperiness are presented in the paper. This material shows the data of comparing six methods used against slipperiness: spreading of friction materials, chemical-friction materials, and chemical materials, heating of motor road and street pavings, using of studded tires and limitation of speed. In the paper the amount of chlorides used in foreign countries (table 1), the dependence of salt remainder on motor road pavings on traffic intensity (table 2), the migration of salts in nature (figure 1), the equipment, materials and spreading areas in winter are described. An advanced “wet salts” technology has been currency introduced for winter maintenance of motor road and streets in Lithuania; more and more salt spreaders are acquired from Western countries. It is expected to have a positive effect on the traffic safety situation in Lithuania.
