Abstract
As a consequence of global warming and increase in gas emissions the need to look for alternative technologies of asphalt mixes production which would differ from widely used hot mix asphalt (HMA) technology arises. Solution of the problem is found in application of warm mix asphalt technology that has a number of advantages. Due to application of this technology temperature reduction of preparation and asphalt mix placement became possible. Application of warm mix asphalt technology enables to obtain the following advantages: * reduction of power consumption in production of asphalt mix; * significant decrease of gas emissions; * labor conditions improvement: reduction of temperature at work site, decrease of amount of evaporations and aerosols in the air. Warm mix technology provides a way to arrange asphalt cover at lower temperature and transport asphalt mixes at large distances. This article covers various technologies of warm mix production, advantages and disadvantages of existing technologies. The following information is also described: experimental data inorder to determine optimal composition of mixes, whether there's need in additives and also to determine the influence thereof on physical and mechanical characteristics of selected mixes. Chemical and organic additives applied in production of warm mixes resulting in mix preparation temperature variation from 1500C to 120°C are described.
