Abstract
With the help of the computer programme PHOENICS 3.2 a mathematical numerical model of a biofilter with five layers of biomedium was developed. The aim of this work is to simulate in a biofilter the dynamics of gas stream transfer, of its velocity and aerodynamic resistance. In a biofilter with a different number (from 1 to 5) of biomedium layers the velocity of the air under treatment changes very little (the maximum ranging from 2.0 to 1.8, and the minimum - from 0.2 to 0.09 m/s). It is established that the aerodynamic resistance of filtering medium distributes evenly through the whole length of a filter (irrespective of the number of medium layers). It means that the influence of aerodynamic resistance on air cleaning is slight (through the whole length of a filter it is from 140 to 49 and from 49 to 35 Pa). By modeling the movement of air particles in a biofilter, it is established that different relative vector distribution (from 0.01 to 0.99 mg/m3) stimulates the processes of air mixing and cleaning.
