Abstract
The treatment process of wastewater from ethanol production was investigated in an anaerobic continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR) under mesophilic conditions. The investigation results show that the decomposition rate of organic materials depends directly on the equipment loading rate. Maximum wastewater treatment efficiency according to BOD5 was at the loading rate of 2 kg BOD5/m3·d and reached 72%, according to COD it was at the loading rate of 4 kg COD/m3·d and reached 63%. The efficiency of the anaerobic process is influenced by the concentration of active anaerobic sludge in a reactor, the ash content in the sludge, concentration of materials with toxicity effect in wastewater.
