Tree bark ability to accomulate metals

Abstract

Pine tree bark sorbs and accumulates airborne contaminants, including heavy metals by dry and wet deposition directly from the atmosphere, from steam flow or root uptake. Therefore tree bark has been used for monitoring of atmospheric pollution. Factors such dry and wet deposition of aerosol particles from the atmosphere, physiological and chemical properties of the bark, through fall, soil factors, contamination of other plants, climatic factors and even the mode of the tree branching have influence the metal content in bark.

Pušies žievė sorbuoja ir kaupia oro teršalus, taip pat ir sunkiuosius metalus. Ant žievės metalai patenka sausų arba šlapių dalelių pavidalu tiesiogiai nusėdant iš atmosferos, taip pat nuo lajos arba kamieno nuplaunant teršalus arba per šaknis. Taigi dėl šios priežasties pušies žievė yra naudojama kaip oro taršos monitorius. Pagrindiniai faktoriai, veikiantys metalų kiekį žievėje, yra sausas ir šlapias teršalų iškritimas atmosferoje, fiziologinės ir cheminės žievės savybės, nuotėkis, dirvožemio savybės, užterštumas šalia esančių augalų, klimatinės sąlygos ir netgi medžio šakų išsidėstymas.
