Information technologies in the service of science and studies development
Abstract
The article deals with a review of the development of current Lithuanian higher education and its research information system, its organisational structure and the stages of its creation. Higher education institutions, aiming at faster adaptation to the rapidly changing external environment, are today trying to create and implement institution resource planning and management components, eg human resources management, financials, admission, records and campus management, etc. The development of external cooperation depends on the communication system within which the institution operates. Universities have begun implementing plants to create a network called University for Economy Structures, which is expected to assist in improving links and facilitate cooperation between universities and the economy's main stakeholders. Most higher education institutions have been using Oracle technologies for several years for educational purposes but, in many cases, the information received from different institutions is incomplete, inaccurate and sometimes delayed. The recent implementation of a library informational system for all higher education and research institutions has already shown the effectiveness of a common system that works on one network.
