Evaluation of road safety and braking efficiency of vehicles in Lithuania

Abstract
Road traffic safety in Lithuania is analyzed, with the essential data on the number of transport facilities and the dynamics of the car accident rate in the period from 1982 to 2002, causalities and causes of accidents provided. The particular measures to be taken to reduce high accident rate are recommended. Since one of the major accident causes may faulty brakes, automobiles with the average service life for Lithuania were tested to check braking efficiency of the front and rear axle wheels.
